Description

Numbers 12, 13, and 14 Chalcot Square form a terrace of three houses along the south-west side of the square. They were built between 1855 and 1860, and subsequently altered. The buildings are constructed of stucco, with rusticated ground floors that are mostly painted.

The houses are four storeys high with basements, and each has three windows. Number 14 has a three-window return on its left-hand side, with some windows being blind. A paired prostyle Doric portico supports stucco balconies on numbers 12 and 13. The doorways have cornice heads, fanlights, side lights, and panelled doors, some of which are partially glazed. The entrance to number 14 is located on the left-hand return. The ground floor windows are tripartite sashes, except for number 14, which has three four-pane sashes. Panelled pilasters rise from the first floor level to support the main entablature, which has a modillion cornice below the attic storey. The upper floor windows are sash windows with margin glazing. The first floor has a continuous cornice with keystones above the windows, and console brackets between the windows, with segmental pediments over the central windows of number 14. The second floor also has keystones, with the central windows featuring large keystones projecting into the architrave above. The attic storey has pilaster strips at the angles, a cornice, and a blocking course.

The interiors have not been inspected. Attached cast-iron railings are present to the areas.
