Description
Numbers 81, 82, and 83 form a terrace of three houses built around 1800. The houses are constructed of yellow brick with stucco detailing and later roof extensions hidden behind a parapet. Each house is four storeys high with a basement, and has three bays.
Number 81 has a rusticated, banded stucco ground floor. The door is located in the right-hand bay and is set within a round-arched doorcase framed by half-Doric columns and a cornice. The recessed door itself has a corniced head and a plain fanlight. The sash windows on the ground floor have stucco lintels, keystones, and cast-iron balconettes. Upper windows have flat, gauged-brick arches within stucco lined reveals; the first-floor windows are long casements with wrought-iron guards, while the second and third floors feature sash windows.
Numbers 82 and 83 feature timber doorcases with half columns topped with foliage capitals, supporting a dentil cornice with a panelled soffit. The doors themselves consist of six panels with a decorative fanlight, set within a round-arched recess with panelled reveals and soffit. The sash windows on these houses have glazing bars in stucco lined reveals and are topped with flat, gauged-brick arches. A stucco dentil cornice runs above the second floor, extending across all three houses.
The interior of the houses has not been inspected. The attached spearhead area railings feature urn finials on the corners. Numbers 81 to 83 form a group with numbers 75 to 78 and 85 and 86.
