Description

This is a late 18th-century house with a ground-floor shop, originally part of a terrace on Blackfriars Road in Southwark. The front is rendered in early 19th-century stucco, finished with a cornice and blocking course. The building is four storeys high and three bays wide. Carved herms (figures in the form of a head and shoulders) are positioned on either side of the timber shop front, which occupies the left two ground-floor bays. A cornice extends to the right, above the private entrance, and is supported by carved consoles. The private entrance has a round-arched doorway with pilasters, a corniced head, and a radial fanlight. The shop front has modern glazing. The upper floors have sash windows. The first-floor windows are simply framed with flat painted stucco architraves. The second-floor windows have eared moulded architraves with keystones, while the third-floor windows have plain reveals. All the windows have glazing bars. A sill band runs along the second floor. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
