Description
A group of three churchyard monuments located in Bury St Edmunds.
MON 121 is a box tomb from 1755, commemorating John Cumberland, who was late of Norwich, along with his wife Rebecca and their two sons, John and Simon. It also honors Samuel Buck of Hawstead and Robert Buck. The monument is broken and has been poorly repaired.
MON 122 is another box tomb, dating from 1760, dedicated to Mr. Samuel Cumberland and his widow, Mrs. Sarah Cumberland, along with several members of the Crosbie and Buck families, who were local maltsters and brewers. This monument is also broken and features a Coat of Arms on the top ledger.
MON 123 is a box tomb that commemorates Mary, the wife of Thomas Robinson, and their children, along with several other members of the Robinson family, including diarist Henry Crabb Robinson, who is buried at Highgate Cemetery. This monument is of local interest and includes various dates from 1765 to 1867.
