Description

This listing describes a group of nine churchyard monuments located in the Great Churchyard of Bury St Edmunds.

MON 194 is an 18th-century headstone made of Ketton stone, featuring a skull and a chamfered back, though it is very worn. MON 195, also an 18th-century headstone of Ketton stone, displays a skull and crossbones flanked by winged angel heads, with a chamfered back. MON 196 is dated 1819 and commemorates SIMON, son of Joseph and Sarah MANNING, as well as SARAH, their daughter who died in 1821. This headstone, made of Ketton stone, is decorated with an hourglass.

MON 200, dated 1810, is another Ketton stone headstone for WILLIAM, son of William and Elizabeth BYHAM, featuring a winged angel head above a crossed upturned trumpet and a downturned flaming torch. MON 201 is an 18th-century headstone of Ketton stone that is very worn. MON 202 is also an 18th-century headstone made of Ketton stone, but it has no legible inscription and features two winged angel heads.

MON 203, another 18th-century headstone of Ketton stone, is very worn and has a winged angel head but no legible inscription. MON 204 is an 18th-century headstone made of Ketton stone, adorned with a bold urn, drapes, foliage, and a bellied cartouche. Finally, MON 205 is an 18th-century headstone of Ketton stone with no inscription, featuring a winged angel head and a cartouche.
