Description
Homestead and Sunrise is a pair of cottages that were originally a house, dating from the 15th century with alterations from the 16th and 20th centuries. The building features a two-cell open hall design, with one and a half storeys and attics. It is constructed with a timber frame and rendered exterior, topped with a thatched half-hipped roof that includes thatched gabled dormers and red brick chimneys at both the axial and gable ends. The windows are 20th-century casements, and there are flush entrance doors.
Inside, the two-bay open hall showcases a crown-post roof, which includes a cambered tie-beam supported by deep chamfered arch-braces that spring from semi-octagonal pilasters. The octagonal crown post has a moulded capital and is supported by four plank-type arch-braces. The hall roof is nearly complete, featuring a service end partition and a half-hipped roof that is soot-blackened. An unusual feature is a chimney stack that was inserted in the 16th century, located centrally in the upper bay of the hall, along with the first-floor structure that was added at that time.
