Description
Block Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1600, possibly built in two stages. It has two storeys and attics, with a timber-framed and rendered structure. The roof is covered with concrete tiles, and there are 17th-century red brick chimneys at each gable end. The house features 19th-century three-light casement windows and a six-panelled entrance door, which is sheltered by a gabled roofed open trellis porch. Inside, there is good quality framing that is exposed, and a gabled staircase wing located at the center rear, which includes an ovolo-mullioned window. In the chamber above the parlour, there is a large inserted ovolo-mullioned and transomed window, as well as a former diamond-mullioned window that is now blocked. There is also evidence of a former large axial chimney that has since been removed. The roof structure includes clasped purlins. The mid-20th century extensions at the north end are not considered to be of special interest.
