Description

This barn, located 30 meters east of Rookery Farmhouse, dates from the late 16th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and weatherboarding, topped with a plain tiled roof. The barn consists of four bays, with a cart entrance in the second bay from the south and a porch on the west side. The oak studs are full-height, except in the north gable end where there is a middle rail, and there have been some later alterations to the frame. The northernmost bay was previously floored over and used as stables, and there is evidence of original diamond-mullioned windows. The roof is well-preserved, featuring clasped and butt purlins along with cranked wind-bracing, and includes queen-struts connecting the tie beams to the principal rafters.
