Description
The White House, formerly known as Squire's Shop, is a house and former shop that likely dates back to the 17th century, with a later shop range added to the right. It features a timber-framed structure with plaster and a plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys and an attic in the main section, arranged in a two-cell form. There are two windows on each range, consisting of three-light mullion and transom casements with large panes. The house includes a lobby entrance with a six-panelled raised and fielded door, a rectangular fanlight with glazing bars, pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. An internal stack is present. To the right, there is an impressive early 19th-century shop front featuring two slightly bowed windows, each containing 50 small panes. The central doorway has a six-panelled door with a rectangular panel above, displaying the name "SQUIRE" in applied letters. The doorway and windows are framed by pilasters, with a frieze and cornice above.
