Description

Doctors Lodge is a house that has been divided into two separate residences. The building is a complex structure made up of three main parts: the western section dates back to the 15th century and has seen significant later alterations (this is No. 1), while attached to the east is a parlour range from the late 16th or early 17th century (part of No. 1 and part of No. 2). There is also a 19th-century addition to the north (No. 2). The older sections are timber framed and plastered, featuring pantiled roofs, except for two slopes that have plaintiles. The building stands two storeys high with attics in the older parts.

The windows vary: No. 1 has mainly 19th-century windows, while No. 2 features large-paned windows from the mid-20th century. The 19th-century addition includes a four-panel door, with the upper two panels being glazed, and a gabled timber trellis porch. Each section has its own internal stack. The two-cell western range contains part of what was once an open hall house, showcasing the cambered tie beam of the open truss (with the bracing removed) and a moulded and crenellated beam against the inserted stack, likely a dais beam. There is exposed studding at the first-floor level, although the original roof has been lost. The adjacent parlour range has undergone some alterations, featuring ovolo-moulded cross-beamed ceilings on each floor.
