Description
Rookery Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is timber framed and plastered, featuring brick-cased gable ends. The front (east) side displays old panelled plasterwork. The roof is covered with black glazed pantiles on the front and plain tiles on the rear. The building has two storeys and an attic, arranged in a three-cell form. There are three windows with old two-light casements, some of which have square-leaded glass. To the left, there is an early 19th-century doorway with a four-panelled door and an architrave that includes corner roundels, while a boarded door is located to the right. Inside, there is a heavy internal stack and a smaller second stack. Some first-floor framing is exposed, showing evidence of original windows. Although there have been alterations to accommodate a 19th-century staircase, the original newel stairs still remain. Additionally, there are substantial remains of a medieval moat surrounding the property.
