Description
This barn, located 20 meters east of Street Farmhouse, dates from the late 16th century. It features a timber frame, with the lower part rendered and tarred, and weatherboarding above. The roof is covered in corrugated iron. There is a gabled porch on the east side with cart doors, and the porch retains old tarred daub.
Inside, the barn has an exceptionally intact frame consisting of seven bays, with a mid rail and curved bracing halved against the outside faces of the studs. The cart entry is located in the third bay from the south. The two northernmost bays have been floored, and there is evidence of one lower diamond-mullioned window opening. Some tie beams still have their original curved braces, while others have been replaced with knee braces. The roof structure is also intact, featuring butt and clasped purlins with two-way wind bracing. The porch dates from the 17th to 18th century, replacing an earlier, narrower porch that was likely the original.
