Description
This barn, located 30 meters west of Gull Farmhouse, dates back to the 16th century. It features a timber frame that is clad in tarred weatherboards, except for the south gable end, which is covered with corrugated iron. The roof is made of pantiles. There is a cart entry in the second bay from the south, with a later gabled porch added to the west, flanked by lean-to additions.
Inside, the barn has an intact frame consisting of four unequal bays, characterized by widely spaced heavy studs and long arched wall braces. The bay at the north end was originally floored over, showing evidence of a diamond-mullioned window and a probable doorway nearby. Most of the tie-beam braces have been replaced with knee braces. The roof is a queen-post design, originally hipped, and retains largely intact braces to the arcade plates and collars, with original rafters except over the south bay. The barn also has a brick threshing floor.
