Description

Debenham House is a former 16th-century farmhouse located on Debenham Aspall Road. Originally a 3-cell, cross-entry type building, it is timber framed with a pebbledash-rendered exterior and a plaintiled roof. The building is two stories high, with mostly late 19th-century 2-light casement windows. One upper window is from the late 17th century and features moulded square mullions. A glazed 6-panel door sits within a wide, open, lean-to porch supported by timber posts. Inside, the building has a 6-bay timber frame with full-height studding, some of which is exposed, and tension braces in the right gable end. The hall and parlour feature good chamfered-joist ceilings, with the hall's bridging beam showing broach stop-chamfers . The internal stack is old, partly rendered, and likely a later insertion. The roof is intact with plain crown posts and longitudinal bracing; the only decorative element is chamfering on the crown post above the hall chamber.
