Description

Valley Farmhouse Barn is a barn dating from the late 16th century, with minor external alterations made in 1847. It features a rendered and colourwashed timber frame, along with some areas of corrugated-iron cladding. The roof is made of corrugated asbestos. The north elevation has a blocked central door, while the south elevation includes a corrugated-iron porch and 20th-century flanking outshuts.

Inside, the barn has five bays of heavy scantling framing, with a middle rail. The principal studs are supported by arched braces connecting to the tie beams, although some braces are missing. There are queen struts supporting the principal rafters, a lower tier of butt purlins in a diamond section, and an upper tier that is clasped. The structure also features collars and curved windbracing.
