Description

This barn, located 120 meters west of Valley Farmhouse, dates from around 1600 and features five bays. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, with the east gable rebuilt in the 19th century using red brick. The roof is pantiled, having originally been thatched. A mid-18th century midstrey of similar design has been added to the center bay on the south side, which includes a set of four boarded barn doors. The structure has full-height studding with arch stud bracing at the corners and center bays. The open trusses have 18th and 19th century bolted knees that replace the original arch braces. The barn also boasts a well-constructed wind-braced clasped purlin roof, featuring principal rafters and intermediate collars, and much of the timber used is reused.
