Description
This barn, located 50 metres west of Vale Farmhouse, dates back to 1615, as indicated by the date carved on the tie-beam of the open truss. It features five bays and is constructed from timber framing with weatherboarding, topped by a pantiled roof. An 18th or early 19th-century gabled midstrey has been added to the east side of the central bay, which includes a set of four boarded doors. There is also a lower doorway with two doors on the west side. The barn showcases good and complete close-studwork, with a middle rail and tension stud-bracing. The roof is supported by wind-braced clasped-purlins, and the two central trusses retain arch-braces, while the intermediate trusses have bolted knees from the 18th or 19th century.
