Description
Abbot's Hall Stables, also known as the Museum of Rural Life offices, are domestic stables with groom's accommodation located at the north end, which is now used as offices. The stables were built in the late 19th century and are constructed of red brick with pantiled roofs. The building runs north-south and features two cross-gables on the east and west sides, each topped with decorative cupolas. The cross-gables have three stepped rounded lancets beneath ventilation panels. On the west side of the central block, there are three segmental-headed centre-hung windows. The east side includes two polychromatic brick piers with four-centred arches in front of two carriage houses, which are separated by a harness room. Under the cross wings, there are stables supported by cast-iron columns and railings, retaining all original fittings. The harness room also contains complete fittings. The groom's house features a six-panelled door, six-over-six horned sash windows, and a gabled dormer in front of a chimney stack.
