Description
This barn, located 20 meters west of Southwood Farmhouse, dates from the late 17th century and was remodeled around 1800. It has five bays and is constructed with a timber frame that is weather-boarded. The roof, originally thatched, is now covered with corrugated asbestos. On the north side, there are four boarded doors from the 19th century located in the central bay, along with a gabled 19th-century porch and other extensions on the south side. The barn features full-height studwork with arch wind-bracing, and long tension braces were added later. The roof is supported by butt purlins, and the original arch-braces at the open trusses have been replaced with 19th-century knee braces. The walling at the west end underwent significant remodeling around 1800. This barn is included for its group value.
