Description
Bastings Hall is a farmhouse that dates from the early and late 17th century, with a 19th-century service cross-wing. The building has two storeys and was originally designed with a three-cell plan. It features a timber-framed structure with plaster and a pantiled roof, which was formerly thatched. There is a central 17th-century chimney made of red brick. The windows are modern casements, and there is a 20th-century pantiled lean-to entrance porch with a half-glazed door. Inside, the early 17th-century framing is visible in the hall and parlour cells, showcasing close-studding and a windbraced butt-purlin roof. The joists are chamfered, laid flat above the parlour, and positioned on edge at the attic level. The parlour and chamber have brick-arched open fireplaces. The service end of the house was extended in the late 17th or early 18th century, and a red brick cross-wing was added in the 19th century.
