Description

Foxes Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with extensions and alterations made in the 19th century. It is timber-framed, featuring rendered gabled ends, a front faced in stretcher bond red brick, and rear outshuts in Flemish bond brick. The roof is covered with pantiles and has gabled ends, while there is a brick axial stack.

The original layout likely consisted of a three-room plan with a central hall and a parlour on the southeast side, both heated by back-to-back fireplaces in the axial stack. There was probably a lobby entrance in front of the stack, with an unheated room at the northwest end. Partitions have since been added to the hall to create a cross-passage entrance, and the lobby entrance has been blocked. An outshut was added at the back, likely in the 19th century.

The exterior features a two-storey, asymmetrical southwest front with five windows. The windows are 20th-century three and four-light casements, with the larger ground floor windows having cambered arches. There is a 20th-century plank door to the left of centre, also with a cambered brick arch. The northwest end gable has small two-light casements, and the rear outshuts have lean-to roofs, with a two-storey section at the centre topped by a catslide roof.

Inside, the right-hand room contains a large brick fireplace with a chamfered timber lintel featuring hollow step stops, a chamfered axial beam with cyma and bar stops, and a two-panel door. The centre room also has a chamfered axial beam and a large brick fireplace with a chamfered timber lintel with hollow step stops. The left-hand room features a chamfered axial beam, and timber-framing, tiebeams, and common rafters are exposed in the chambers.
