Description

This barn, located 30 meters north-east of Pear Tree Farmhouse, dates from the late 17th century. It features three bays, with the central entrance bay being narrower than the others. The structure is timber-framed and weatherboarded, topped with a corrugated asbestos roof that was originally thatched. On the west side, there is a set of four 19th-century boarded barn doors. The barn showcases studwork with heavy and prominent curved rising primary braces, and it has a clasped purlin roof. Notably, it is an interesting example of extensive reuse of medieval timber. There are also 19th-century extensions that are weatherboarded and primarily covered with pantiles.
