Description
This barn, located approximately 15 meters south-west of Pear Tree Farmhouse, dates from the early 18th century and has undergone later alterations. It is constructed with a timber frame, featuring red brick infill and some weatherboarding, topped with a corrugated iron roof. The barn has two levels, with an eaves hatch on the left and low double doors immediately to the right. There is a 20th-century gabled eaves dormer positioned to the right of center. The front reveals vertical timber posts below the weatherboarded upper storey, while the gable ends were rebuilt in late 19th century red brick beneath the tie beams. Inside, the framing is visible, showcasing vertical posts and horizontal timbers that create square panels. The roof consists of a single-purlin structure spanning three wide bays, with collar and tie beam end trusses, a queen-strut truss to the right, and raking struts from the tie beam supporting the principal rafter to the left. The barn also features jowled wall posts and straight windbraces, along with a continuous loft. Pear Tree Farmhouse itself is not included in this listing.
