Description
71 Ipswich Road is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered and has a thatched roof. The house consists of two small cells and has one storey with an attic. The central entrance is a glazed door flanked by two-light casement windows, all of which have hoodboards. There are also two and three-light eyebrow thatched dormers. The left end has a ridge stack that was originally external and tapered to the front but has now been made internal, with renewed exposed purlins. The right end has 20th-century casements and renewed purlins. At the rear, there are glazing bar casements and a three-light eyebrow thatched dormer, along with an entrance leading to a 20th-century link to a one-storey addition. Inside, the house retains exposed framing with some alterations, including a chamfered axial binding beam and fireplace bressumer, reverse curved bracing in the end walls, a chamfered doorway, and a central tie beam that was originally cut by a doorway. The window openings have been restored as mullioned windows.
