Description
Wood Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the mid 16th century. It is two storeys high and features a three-cell cross-entry plan. The building is timber-framed and plastered, with a concrete tiled roof that is hipped at both ends, although it was originally thatched. An axial chimney made of red brick from the early 17th century has a distinctive sawtooth shaft. The windows include mid-20th century casements with two lights, as well as some restored 16th-century diamond mullioned windows. There is a 20th-century panelled entrance door located at the cross-entry position, alongside the original doorway that has a shallow four-centred arch. The complete 16th-century framing is exposed, and there are back-to-back open fireplaces. The chimney was rebuilt in the early 17th century, as the original chimney was smaller.
