Description
Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse, probably dating from around 1600, with remodelling that occurred around 1900. It features a two-cell lobby-entrance plan, with the parlour cell designed in a cross-wing form. The building has two storeys and is timber-framed, with the front and side elevations covered in gault brick, accented with red brick bands and dressings from the 1900 remodelling. The two gables and the entire rear of the original structure are still plastered, and the gables would have originally overhung before being encased. The roofs are covered with plain tiles. There is an axial chimney, with its shaft rebuilt in gault and red brick. At the rear of the cross-wing, there is an early 17th-century chimney made of red brick with a sawtooth shaft, flanked by lean-to structures that were likely used as a garderobe. The window openings date to around 1900 and feature splayed lintels; the windows were replaced with aluminium casements around 1980. The farmhouse includes three splayed bay windows with hipped slated roofs and a gable slated entrance porch at the lobby-entrance position. To the right, there is a two-storey extension with two windows, built around 1900. Although there have been 20th-century alterations, the farmhouse is included in the listing due to its substantial nature and retention of much original work.
