Description
Hill House Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1600, with alterations made in the mid 19th century. The building has two storeys and is timber-framed, encased in 19th-century gault brick, featuring flat corner pilasters. The roof is plaintiled and has an axial red brick chimney with a distinctive saw-tooth pattern shaft.
On the ground floor, there are mid 19th-century sash windows with large panes, while the upper storey has late 20th-century metal casements. The entrance door, which is also from the 19th century, is panelled with glazed upper panels and is framed by a broad reeded architrave and panelled reveals. Inside, the studwork is very closely spaced and partly exposed. The parlour and the chamber above feature ovolo moulded main beams, and one wall contains a blocked ovolo-mullioned window.
To the right, there is a short cross-wing that houses the service rooms; this section is structurally separate and may be slightly older. Additionally, a small backhouse was added at the rear in the 18th century, which includes a large cooking fireplace.
