Description
Spring Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the mid-16th century. It is two storeys high and has a three-cell plan, originally featuring a cross-passage entrance, which was changed to a lobby entrance in the 17th or 18th century. The building is timber-framed and plastered, with a pantiled roof that includes a central chimney made of red brick, dating from the 16th or 17th century. The windows are three-light small-pane casements, which were likely added in the 19th or early 20th century. There is a gabled entrance porch from the late 19th century, covered with slates and featuring a four-panelled door. The farmhouse displays substantial unmoulded exposed framing and has a coupled-rafter roof. Inside, there are back-to-back blocked open fireplaces located in the hall and parlour, along with two good moulded plank doors from around 1600. A staircase was added in the cross-passage during the 17th century.
