Description
Firtree Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century and early 17th century, with a fragmentary core from the 15th century. It has a three-cell lobby-entrance plan and is one storey high with attics. The building is timber-framed and plastered, featuring a concrete pantiled roof that was once thatched. There is a central 17th-century chimney made of red brick, which was rebuilt above the thatch line in the mid-20th century. The farmhouse has three mid-20th-century gabled casement dormers and mid-20th-century casement windows. A mid-20th-century gabled porch is located at the lobby-entrance position, which includes a framed and boarded door. An exposed part of a 15th-century two-centred arched service room doorway is visible, along with adjacent framing; however, no other medieval work is apparent, and extensive later alterations have been made throughout. The parlour block to the right displays exposed framing from around 1600. Inside, there is a wide 16th-century open fireplace in the hall, with a cambered lintel that shows traces of early painted decoration. The roof features clasped purlins from the 17th century, and there is a service cell to the left.
