Description
Stockhold Green Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 15th or early 16th century, with alterations made in the early 17th century and mid-20th century. The building has one storey and attics, featuring a three-cell plan. It is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with a thatched roof that includes a central 17th-century chimney made of red brick, although the shaft was mainly rebuilt in the mid-20th century. The windows are 19th-century casements, and there is a 20th-century half-glazed entrance door located at the rear.
At the front, there is a two-storey mid-20th-century extension that is made of painted brick and has a thatched gabled roof. Inside, the farmhouse retains elements of an open-hall house, with two original cells still intact. One room features unchamfered medieval floor joists, and there is a two-bay open hall with some visible smoke-blackened studding, although the open truss of the hall is missing. An inserted chimney includes a large cambered lintelled open fireplace. In the early 17th century, a two-bay parlour block was added to the left side, replacing the former service cell. This addition has chamfered floor joists laid flat and a bridging beam supported on jowls that take the form of crude console brackets, with one bracket missing.
