Description
Coachmans is a house dating from the mid 16th century. It has one storey and attics, featuring a three-cell plan with both lobby and cross entries. The building is timber-framed and plastered, topped with a pantiled roof that includes an axial chimney, which was rebuilt in 20th-century common brick, and another external chimney on the right. There are 19th-century plaintiled gabled dormers and mid-20th-century small-paned casements. The house has two boarded entrance doors from the 19th century.
Inside, a double-ogee moulded binding beam indicates that there was once a larger chimney where the current one is located. The cambered lintel over the hall fireplace is likely a reused feature. There is some close-studding present, and it is said that a blocked diamond-mullioned window is concealed in the gable of the service cell on the right.
