Description

This range of farm buildings, located immediately north of Manor Farm House in Thurston, was built in 1876 by Philip Webb for the Nether Hall estate. The buildings feature a weatherboarded timber frame set on a brick plinth, topped with a pantile roof that has gabled ends and a hipped roof over the southern range.

The layout is centered around a yard, with a large double-span covered yard providing shelter on the west side. To the south of this covered yard are cattle sheds that include a loft above, while single-storey ranges surround the yard on the north, east, and south sides.

On the north side, three gable ends face the yard. The southernmost gable has a loft door on its left return, while the two larger gables to the right are the ends of the covered yard, which is open below the gables. The lower single-storey ranges have 20th-century lean-to sheds attached. A large 20th-century farm building located immediately to the west is not included in this listing.

Inside, the covered yard features a very wide double-span roof supported by large braced tie-beam trusses. The arcade plate is held up by timber posts with straight braces, and the wind-braces, purlins, and common rafters remain intact.

Manor Farm was originally the home farm of the Nether Hall estate.
