Description
Green Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid 17th century, with the possibility of an earlier core. It has one storey and attics, featuring a three-cell lobby-entrance plan. The building is timber-framed and plastered, with a main roof that is currently covered in asbestos slates, although it was once thatched. There is a half-hipped roof over the service cell at the west end and a 19th-century raking casement dormer. A mid 17th-century chimney made of red brick has pilasters on both the front and rear of the shaft. The windows are early to mid 19th-century small-pane sashes. At the lobby entrance, there is a mid to late 19th-century glazed porch with a lean-to pantiled roof and a boarded door. At the rear of the main range, there is a small wing from the 17th or 18th century with a glazed pantiled roof. To the left, set forward, is a mid 19th-century service wing made of painted brick with a slated roof. Most of the framing is concealed, but in the hall, there are 17th-century floor joists that are unchamfered and laid flat. The service cell contains earlier floor joists, which may be reused or indicate the presence of an earlier core.
