Description
Angel Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 15th or early 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th century and mid-20th century. It has a three-cell plan, featuring a hall range that is one storey high with attics, and a two-storey parlour block to the right. The building is timber-framed and pebble-dashed, topped with a thatched roof that includes one eyebrow casement dormer. Most of the windows are mid-20th century casements, and there is a glazed 20th-century entrance door located in a rear lean-to extension.
Inside, the central hall, which was once open, has a smoke-encrusted roof of the coupled-rafter type. Beneath the thatch, there is an original latticework of interwoven withies that is heavily encrusted with smoke, replacing the usual riven battens. The service cell features a later coupled-rafter roof, while the 17th-century parlour cell has a wind-braced clasped purlin roof. The ground storey framing has been significantly altered in the 20th century, and the first storey framing is concealed. The farmhouse is included in the listing despite these alterations due to its medieval core and the significant features found within the roof.
