Keepers Cottages

Keepers Cottages are a pair of estate cottages dated 1858, as indicated by metal figures in each main gable. They are constructed of red brick, featuring rusticated quoins and window surrounds made of yellow brick, and have a slated roof with courses of fishscale slates at the front. The cottages are two storeys high with a symmetrical facade that has twin gables set slightly forward. Each gable contains a stone shield inscribed with 'SA 1858'. The gables feature mullioned casement windows with geometric glazing bars and shallow segmental arches with hood moulds. There are narrower blank panels in the recessed part of the facade. Each return gable end has two windows and a central doorway with a four-panel door topped by a gabled hood on shaped brackets. A central internal stack has recessed panels and a cornice. These cottages are a well-preserved example of the Henham estate cottages.
