Description
Church Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1600 on an internal wall post, which was remodeled in the mid-18th century and extended to the right in the 19th century. It is timber framed with modern roughcast render, except for the right-hand addition, which is made of colourwashed brick. The roof is slated, and the building has two storeys and an attic. There are four windows, primarily 18th-century three-light mullion and transom casements.
The entrance features a lobby with a notable 18th-century porch that includes a six-panel door, eared architrave, Doric pilasters, an entablature, and a triangular pediment. The side windows have semi-hexagonal heads. The farmhouse has a central axial stack. Inside, the hall contains an ovolo-moulded main beam with enriched barred stop-chamfers and exposed joists. The wall posts supporting the main beam have decorative heads with carved panels; the front post displays the boldly carved date of 1600, while the rear post features two sets of initials, 'RN' and 'MB'.
The parlour and part of the hall were rebuilt in the mid-18th century when the entire house was re-roofed. On the first floor, there is a fireplace that may be original, featuring a depressed two-centre arch and stucco surround. In the attic, there are two early diamond-leaded windows that have been placed in internal partitions. The staircase is a newel type, and only a small portion of the timber frame is exposed.
