Description
Whitehouse Farmhouse is a building of late 16th and early 17th century origin, with a left-hand end rebuilt in the 18th century and a 19th-century facade. The core of the house is timber-framed, now largely rebuilt in brick, with a white brick facade featuring pilaster strips defining the quoins. The left-hand gable end is of 18th-century red brick, and the roof is slate-covered. The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic, and originally comprised three rooms. It features three windows with 19th-century four-light casements, the outer lights of each window having small panes, and the two inner lights featuring large panes with a single horizontal glazing bar. A lobby entrance has a six-panel door, rectangular fanlight, pilasters, and bracketed cornice. Internal and right-hand gable end stacks, both rebuilt in early to mid-19th century white brick, are present. Some original timber framing is exposed internally on the rear wall and right-hand gable end at first-floor level, indicating evidence of two original windows, although the mullions are not visible. Much of the original frame has disappeared. Some original floorboarding remains.
