Description

The Cherry Tree Public House dates primarily to the mid-19th century, though it retains a core from the 17th century. The original timber-frame structure is almost entirely encased in colourwashed brick, with the left-hand gable end finished in tarred brick. The roof is slate-covered.

The building is two storeys high and has a two-cell plan. The front facade is symmetrical, with three windows. These windows contain two-light and three-light casement windows, featuring shallow triangular pointed arches and unusual hexagonal-patterned glazing bars, characteristic of the local estate style. Brick hood moulds are above the windows. A lobby entrance has a colourwashed brick gabled porch and a boarded and battened door with a very shallow three-centred arch and a hood mould above. A central axial stack is present.

Inside, some of the original timber frame is visible, and one ground floor room retains exposed chamfered joists. A large bar addition was constructed to the rear in approximately 1980 and is not considered to be of special architectural interest.
