Description
D'Urbans Farmhouse is a former farmhouse that has been converted into part offices and part domestic use. It dates from the 16th and 17th centuries and has an L-shaped form. The building is timber-framed and rendered, with 20th-century surfacing, and features plaintiles on the roof. There are two internal chimney stacks with plain rebuilt shafts. The windows throughout are standard casement windows from the 20th century, with both two-light and three-light designs.
The front of the farmhouse includes red brick extensions from the 19th and 20th centuries, along with a half-glazed porch. The main range consists of four bays and includes a large two-bay room on the ground floor. This room features multiple roll-mouldings with run-off stops on the main beams and mouldings on the tops of the main posts, although these details are somewhat damaged. There is simple Jacobean panelling along one wall. The remaining timbering is plain, showcasing good studding with arched braces, jowled main posts with braces that have been removed, a blocked stair-trap in one room, and one upper window that retains its diamond mullions. The large cross-wing is a later addition from the 17th century, characterized by poorer framing and a side-purlin roof.
