Description
Strawberry Fields is a mid-16th century house with later additions, situated sideways to the road. Originally a two-storey, two-cell lobby-entrance plan, only part of the original plan survives. The house is timber-framed and rendered, with a clay pantile roof. A 19th-century replacement section is built in red brick with a lower roofline on the east side, and a mid-20th century rendered extension exists on the west side. Two internal chimney stacks are present with rebuilt red brick shafts. Most of the two-light casement windows are modern replacements, although some original windows remain with a single bar to each light. Three bays of the original timber framing survive, including a chimney bay. The framing appears incomplete on the east side, where a 19th-century brick section replaced the original parlour. The timber frame is largely exposed. Full-height scuds are present, and reversed braces only exist at the west end. Blocked diamond-mullioned windows are visible on the first floor. Inside, there are chamfered main beams and joists with run-off stops to the beam, along with long arched braces to the tie-beams, although some have been removed. The roof is a plain queen-post roof.
