Description
Masonic Hall was built in 1788 for use as a school and is located next to Sir Robert Hitcham's Almshouses to the north. The building is constructed of red brick and covered with plain tiles. It is a single-storey structure with its gable end facing the street. The south side features three-light square leaded casement windows. The entrance on the gable end has a wide door with six raised fielded panels and a wheel fanlight, set within a semi-circular arched opening that includes a keystone and abaci. There are recessed blank panels with flat arches and keystones on each side of the entrance. On the north side, there is an enclosed single-storey red brick porch in Tudor style, dating from around 1840, which has a four-centred arch, a rectangular niche above, and copings on the gable. The porch features double doors with eight raised fielded panels.
