Description
No. 17 and No. 19 Bridge Street is a house that has been divided into two separate residences. It dates from the 17th century, with No. 19 featuring a wooden date-panel above the door that reads 1681, along with the initials G over R and B, and a heart between the latter two initials. The building has two storeys and a three-cell plan. It is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with old plain tiled roofs. There is an internal chimney stack with a large plain red brick shaft. The ground storey has four small-paned sash windows in flush frames, while the upper storey contains three 3-light small-paned casement windows. The entrance includes one half-glazed door and one 20th-century plank door. There is a lean-to structure against the west gable and a one-storey wing at the rear of No. 19, which features a paired 4-light small-paned casement window and a gabled dormer. Historically, No. 19 served as the Manse for the adjacent Unitarian Chapel, which it was purchased for in 1756.
