Description

Heath Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the 16th century and later. It has two storeys and attics in some parts, while other areas are 1½ storeys. The building features a main lobby-entrance range with two wings of different ages at the rear. The structure is timber-framed, rendered on the sides and rear, with the main front faced in late 19th century red brick laid in English bond. This brickwork is tied into the frame by iron rods, with the ends finished with projecting knobs. The roofs are covered with plaintiles.

Inside, there is an internal chimney stack with a large plain rebuilt red brick shaft. On the upper floor, there are one 2-light and three 3-light casement windows, each with a single horizontal bar to the lights. The ground floor features three 3-light mullion-and-transom type casements, all set in deep reveals. The recessed entrance door has six sunk panels and panelled linings around it.

To the right of the stack, a two-bay ground-floor room has very heavy timbers, with a wide chamfer and curved stops on the main beam, plain unchamfered joists set on edge, and an open fireplace with a plain timber lintel. The wallplate of this range has been doubled, and the roof has been renewed.

At the rear, a small wing contains a complete 4-light diamond-mullioned window in the gable end and reversed braces on the upper floor. There is also a longer 1½ storey service wing with clay pantiles and an internal chimney stack, showcasing typical early 18th century framing, including bisected studs, primary braces, and narrow joists set on edge, with a roof featuring stepped butt purlins.
