Description

Letheringham Mill is a mill built in the 18th century with 19th-century additions. It features a timber frame, clapboarding, and a plaintile roof, with two floors and two attic floors beneath a gambrel roof. On the downstream side, there is a brick archway leading to the shoot, with two central doorways to the main body and a stable door on the left. The first floor has two two-light lateral casements and a divided loft door to the left. Attached to the left is a 19th-century outshut that includes a door on the right and a three-light window on the left. A 19th-century addition is recessed on the right side. The right gable end has a projecting outshut with a gabled pantile roof and a two-light 20th-century window. Above this, at first floor level, is a casement, followed by three small single-light windows and a two-light casement below a projecting lucum, which is supported on brackets and features a two-light window at its gabled top. The left side has a projecting lean-to at ground floor level, a two-light window to the lower attic floor, and a cross window at the topmost floor. Inside, all machinery has been removed except for the wheel, which has an octagonal wooden shaft, an iron outer ring, and is badly corroded. There is also a frame for a shaker and various belt wheels. The inner frame is closely studded with angle braces and has chamfered ceiling beams.
