Description

1-5 Westgate Street comprises a medieval hall house with alterations dating from the 16th-17th centuries, and further external modifications in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building has two storeys. The main block features a three-window front with casement windows containing glazing bars. Projecting wings are situated to the south at both the east and west ends, each with a single-window range. The west wing is faced with rubble and red brick dressings. The roofs are thatched, with four large rectangular chimney stacks. The interior retains exposed timber framing, and a portion of the house has been restored, revealing a section of the original hall with an open roof structure.
