Description
Frettons is likely an early 16th-century hall house with a later 16th-century addition on the south-west and a small 17th-century kitchen wing on the south-east. The building underwent external alterations in the 18th century, during which it was refaced in red brick, and additional wings were added to the east and west. It has two storeys and attics in the main block. The north front features small gabled wings that project slightly at the east and west ends, with later additions on both ends. The 18th-century front has windows arranged in a 1:3:1 pattern, consisting of double-hung sashes with glazing bars set in plain reveals. The south-west wing includes mullioned and transomed casements with leaded lights, set in segmental arched heads, and has a four-window range on the west side. The east side displays two late 16th-century chimney stacks with diagonal shafts (rebuilt), while the main block retains an original chimney stack with an embattled offset and one diagonal shaft. Inside, the hall features 17th-century panelling and an open fireplace, although the original overmantle and carved frieze are no longer present. One room in the west wing has a dado of 16th-century panelling. The roof is tiled and includes one modern gabled dormer on the north front.
