Description
The Chantry is a timber-framed and plastered building dating from the early 16th century. It has undergone significant restoration, featuring sham timber-framing on the front. The building is two storeys high, with the upper storey jettied on a tiled front supported by exposed joists. The windows are casements with leaded lights. An original doorway with a four-centred head leads to a 17th-century panelled door. The ground storey includes an early 19th-century shop bay window with glazing bars. The roof is tiled and has a cat slide at the rear. The Chantry is part of a group that includes Lingwood House, Nos 58 and 60, and The Griffin Inn.
