Description

1 Birch Street is a 16th-century timber-framed and plastered house featuring a jettied upper storey with exposed joists and timber framing. The ground floor is faced with colourwashed brick. At the west end, on the corner with Mill Street, there is a single-storey addition that has a curved wall and a tiled roof. The building has two storeys and attics, with one window range. The first storey features casement windows with glazing bars, while the ground storey has a horizontal sliding sash window. The attic is illuminated by a horizontal sliding sash window in the gable. The roof is covered with old tiles. The building is recognized for its composite group interest.
