Description

A timber-framed house of 15th-century origin stands at 6 and 8 Birch Street, Nayland, with Wissington. Originally, numbers 6, 8, and 10 formed a Wealden house, with the hall later jettied out to align with the wings when a floor was inserted between the 16th and 17th centuries. The house is two stories high. The upper storey has a jettied facade supported by exposed joists across the entire front. The ground storey is faced with painted brick. It features a two-window range of 18th-century double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, and two four-panel doors. The roof is tiled with old tiles. The house was renovated in the 20th century, revealing the timber framing on the upper storey. It is listed for its composite group value.
