Description

The Lodge Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th century. It features a timber-framed structure built on a red brick plinth, with the front underbuilt in red brick using English bond, and the west end pargetted. The roof is covered with plain tiles, and there is a red brick stack. The cottage has two storeys and two bays, with a door to the left and two 20th-century casement windows. A 20th-century porch has been added to the right. The exterior showcases close-studding with arched down braces above the middle rail, and there is a blocked original window in the centre. To the right, there is a restored three-light mullion window. The roof is gableted to the right (west) and features an off-centre stack.

At the rear, the close studding continues with arched down braces above the middle rail, and there are restored three-light and two-light mullion windows under hoodmoulds. The west end includes a four-light ovolo mullion and transom window flanked by three-light ovolo mullion side windows, with a 20th-century casement window above. The east end has a jettied first floor and gable, with close-studding except for the gable. It features a four-light ovolo mullion and transom window with four-light side windows. A similar window above likely originally had a central oriel, as indicated by mortices in the soffit of the cornice.

Inside, the framing is exposed, and the ceilings are beamed with exposed joists and jowled posts. There is an original newel spiral stair adjacent to the stack, featuring a horn ball finial on the newel. The first-floor fireplace has an elliptical ovolo-moulded arch.
